Your car’s brake system is one of the most important components you need to pay special attention to. Your brakes are essential in keeping you safe on the road.

A key part of the brake system is the brake pedal. It is what you press with your foot to make your car go slow or stop.

Drivers complain that their brake pedals sometimes feel soft or spongy. If you experience this in your vehicle, it means there’s something wrong with your brake system, which could jeopardize your safety.

5. There’s a leak in the wheel cylinders.

Corrosion inside that wheel cylinder can cause brake fluid to leak, resulting in a loss of hydraulic pressure and leading to a low or spongy brake pedal.

6. Brake shoes need adjustments.

Brake shoes carry the brake lining inside the brake drum systems. When they wear out, it can make the brake pedal feel soft. This can be fixed by adjusting the brake shoes.

7. ABS hydraulic assembly is malfunctioning.

The ABS hydraulic assembly contains solenoids and valves that fail when corrosion and debris in the brake fluid affect the valve’s operation. When this happens, the brake pedal becomes spongy.
