General Information

When you donate a vehicle to Goodwill, you are directly helping to transform the lives of men and women in your community who are struggling with poverty, unemployment, and life-limiting disabilities. Your donation will fund critical programs and services that aim to improve their overall well-being. Not to mention, you get a top tax deduction!

First, we assess every vehicle donation that we receive. Then, we sell all donated vehicles. Once your vehicle has been sold, the proceeds will be used by our participating Goodwill organizations to fun their missions. Finally, we mail you your tax-deductible donation receipt.

Apart from receiving a maximum tax deduction, you get to take advantage of our FREE pick-up and towing services. Plus, you can finally save loads of cash when you stop paying for your vehicle’s maintenance, repairs, and insurance fees!

Our superfast and convenient donation process only takes you 2 to 3 minutes to complete!

First, you get in touch with us, either through a phone call or our online donation form, where you provide basic details regarding your vehicle.

Once we verify all information, we will call you back to arrange the free pickup and tow of your vehicle – at a time and place convenient for you.

Finally, our team will handle all your paperwork, sell your donated vehicle, and deliver you your tax receipt.

Easy! Feel free to give us a call anytime at (866) 233-8586.

Accepted Vehicles

Vehicles we commonly take include cars, vans, SUVs, RVs, trucks, campers, boats, motorcycles, golf carts, and ATVs. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg! Feel free to give us a call anytime at (866) 233-8586 if you have any questions or concerns about the vehicle you wish to donate.

Yes, we do! We are able to accept most vehicles that are in poor shape or those that haven’t been working for years. Feel free to give us a call anytime at (866) 233-8586 if you have any uncertainties about your vehicle’s eligibility for our vehicle donation program.

No need to worry about that! We accept vehicles that have failed emissions testing.

In most cases, we cannot accept an abandoned vehicle as proof of ownership is required to donate. If you find an abandoned vehicle, please notify your local police department.

We definitely can accept inherited vehicles! Give us a call at (866) 233-8586 and one of our friendly customer service agents will assist you through the process.

You sure can! We welcome multiple donations!

As a matter of fact, we do! We accept vehicle donations in all fifty states, as well as the District of Columbia.

Pickup and Towing

Give us a call at (866) 233-8586 and let us know when and where you’d like your vehicle to be picked up. We will then coordinate with a professional towing company to get the job done at a time and place convenient for you.

Goodwill Car Donations offers FREE pickup and towing of all donated vehicles. It will not cost you a dime.

Your vehicle does NOT have to be at your home to be picked up. We often pickup vehicles at repair shops and places of work. Give us a call at (866) 233-8586 and we’ll be happy to walk you through any pickup questions you may have.

That’s no problem. You do not need to be present at the time of pickup. Just make sure to give us a heads up beforehand, so we can provide you additional instructions, and you’re free to do your thing!

Most vehicle pickups take place within 1 or 2 business days. However, if you need your vehicle removed urgently, we may be able to accommodate your needs. Just give us a call at (866) 233-8586 asap.

Absolutely! In most cases, the tow truck driver will hand you the donation tow receipt when he or she picks up your vehicle. We can also mail and/or email the donation tow receipt to you. You’ll need this receipt to present to your local DMV in order to cancel your vehicle’s registration and insurance details.

Tax Deductions

You bet! Contributing to an IRS-certified 501(c)3 nonprofit organization automatically gives you the right to claim a tax deduction.

It depends on your vehicle’s final selling price. The IRS Publication 561 states that donors are eligible to deduct the fair market value of the vehicle up to $500 or the amount it sells for, whichever is higher. The selling price will be indicated on the tax receipt we give to you.

We suggest you consult with your tax professional for further details.

Expect it to arrive in your mailbox within 30 days following the sale of your donated vehicle. We can also email this receipt to you should you wish.

Title and Registration

In general, donors are required to print and sign their names on the vehicle title’s sellers section. However, requirements for title transfer ownership vary for each state, which is why we encourage you to talk to one of our knowledgeable staff from our Title Department before writing on your vehicle’s title. Reach us at (866) 233-8586.

We will need proof of ownership – a signed title free of all liens. If a lien is listed on the title, please submit the original lien release, as well. If you have any questions, please feel free to give us a call at (866) 233-8586 and we’ll be happy to go over any questions you have.

Simply let us know. Give us a call at (866) 233-8586 and speak to one of our Title Department agents. We can help.

It depends on your state’s requirements. To be sure, give us a call at (866) 233-8586.

It depends on what state you live in and what state the deceased lived in. Most states require donors to submit documents – including the signed title, a copy of the owner’s death certificate, and executor rights paperwork. Call (866) 233-8586 for additional details.

Generally speaking, yes. There are certain cases, however, when only one signature is required – for instance, if there’s an “or” between the names. Give us a call at (866) 233-8586 and we can walk you through your state’s requirements.

In most states, donors are required to remove their license plates before the tow truck driver arrives. That way, they can give the plates back to their local DMV. Some states allow donors to leave the plates on the car. Give us a call at (866) 233-8586 and we can walk you through your state’s requirements.
