Turning Your Old Ride Into Something Meaningful in Salt Lake City, UT

Salt Lake City runs on a rhythm all its own. One morning, you’re hiking the Bonneville Shoreline Trail, the next, you’re weaving through downtown traffic on your way to the farmers market at Pioneer Park. Life here doesn’t slow down – even if your car has.

If that old truck or sedan in your driveway hasn’t budged since last ski season, it might be doing more sitting than serving. Donating it to Goodwill Car Donations is a solid way to clear up space, skip the hassle of selling, and support programs that help people right here in the Salt Lake community. Plus, it’s quicker than waiting for a table at Red Iguana on a Saturday night.

How Our Car Donation Process Works In Salt Lake City, UT

Donating here is as smooth as cruising down 400 South when the lights are in your favor. Just three steps:

  • Step 1: Get in touch. Call us at 866-233-8586 or use the short online form. We’ll ask for basic details – make, model, year, condition. Doesn’t matter if your SUV is tucked in Sugar House or if your minivan’s been sitting outside a repair shop in Glendale.
  • Step 2: Schedule your free pickup. Once your vehicle is approved, choose a time that works for you. We’ll send a tow truck to wherever your vehicle is – your driveway, office lot, or even a backyard alley – at no cost.
  • Step 3: Receive your tax receipt. Once your car is sold, you’ll get a receipt by mail. Use it when tax season rolls around to claim your deduction.

It’s really that easy – faster than finding a parking spot near Temple Square during the holidays.

  • Helps fund programs that make a difference locally

Neighborhoods Across Salt Lake City We Serve

We pick up cars throughout the city and the surrounding areas. Some of the neighborhoods we regularly serve include:

  • Sugar House: With its mix of historic cottages, trendy coffee shops, and weekend walks around Sugar House Park, this area sees plenty of commuter sedans and hybrids donated once folks decide to upgrade.
  • The Avenues: Those steep streets and Victorian homes come with a view — and the cars we pick up here are often older SUVs and compact sedans that have done their share of hill climbing.
  • Glendale: Close to the Jordan River Parkway and full of family homes, donations here usually include minivans, work trucks, and crossovers that have served for years of errands and school runs.
  • Downtown Salt Lake City: Between Main Street offices, apartment towers, and a nightlife that keeps parking tight, residents tend to let go of compact cars, small hybrids, or second vehicles they just don’t need.
  • Rose Park: With its community parks and quick access to I-15, we often collect older pickups, midsize SUVs, and practical sedans from longtime locals.
  • Liberty Wells: Bungalows, corner diners, and Liberty Park set the vibe here. Donations often include motorcycles, compact cars, and family sedans that aren’t seeing much action anymore.
  • Capitol Hill: Overlooking the State Capitol and city skyline, residents here sometimes part with smaller sedans, hybrids, or even a classic car that’s been in the family a while.

Wherever your driveway is – near the mountains, along the parkways, or right in the city grid – we can usually arrange towing at no cost, as long as the vehicle meets basic eligibility requirements.

Car Donation Questions People In Salt Lake City Often Ask

1. How much will it cost me to donate my car?

Absolutely nothing. Towing, title transfer, and processing fees are covered for approved vehicles. Many non-running cars qualify, but acceptance can vary depending on the vehicle’s condition, location, and documentation.

2. What kinds of vehicles can I donate?

We take a wide mix of vehicles – cars, trucks, SUVs, vans, motorcycles, and more. And don’t worry if yours isn’t running – many non-working vehicles still qualify. Keep in mind, though, that not every vehicle makes the cut. Things like condition, location, and title status all play a role in whether a vehicle gets approved. If you’ve got something like an RV, camper, boat, or trailer, it’s worth reaching out first to confirm eligibility.

3. How soon can you pick up my car?

Usually within 2–3 days after your vehicle is approved. Need it gone faster – like before the next snowstorm hits? Just tell us, and we’ll do our best to arrange a quicker pickup.

4. Will I receive a tax deduction?

Yes. After your car sells, we’ll mail you a receipt. If it sells for over $500, you can deduct the full sale price. If it sells for under $500, you can deduct either $500 or the sale price, whichever is higher.

5. Do I need to be there when my car is towed?

Not always. As long as we have access to the vehicle and the signed title, we can tow it without you being present. It’s especially helpful if your schedule is packed.

6. What if I have title issues?

Our title specialists usually resolve these problems directly with the DMV, so most donors never need to step foot in an office. If you do need in-person help, the most accessible local office is the Salt Lake City DMV, 380 W 2880 S, Salt Lake City, UT 84115.
