Support Friendly Neighbors in Newberry, SC

Newberry is known as “The City of Friendly Folks,” and that reputation comes from neighbors helping neighbors. Maybe you’ve seen students near Newberry College working toward a degree but struggling to pay bills, or veterans around Jalapa searching for a steady career after service. These are the people who make our community strong, even when they need a hand up.

Donating through Goodwill Car Donations keeps that tradition of care alive. Instead of collecting dust, your vehicle helps fund programs that give our neighbors the tools to succeed. From Downtown Newberry’s historic Opera House to the neighborhoods along Wilson Road, your generosity helps keep that “second chances” spirit alive around here.

We Serve All Corners of the City

Our local towing partners know the ins and outs of Newberry, from Main Street’s historic storefronts to the winding roads near Lake Murray. Here are a few of the areas you’ll often see us collecting cars:

  • Downtown Newberry: The Opera House anchors Main Street, where Newberry College students mix with locals who remember when textile mills ran the town. Donors here have parted with everything from commuter sedans parked behind antique shops to Jeeps that carried students to campus and pickup trucks retired after years of Main Street parades.
  • College Area: Streets around Newberry College hold professor housing and student rentals that turn over every May. It’s not unusual to see donations of compact cars left behind after graduation, old motorcycles that sat idle for semesters, or hybrids that didn’t quite survive four years of student life.
  • Brooklyn: This historically Black neighborhood near the old Newberry Cotton Mill has families whose roots go back to Reconstruction. Neighbors here have let go of church vans that carried congregations for decades, station wagons passed down through generations, and project cars that sat too long on cinder blocks.
  • Oakland Mill Village: Mill houses from Newberry’s textile days still stand, now home to families working at the Samsung plant in Chapin. Donations often include small hatchbacks tucked into narrow driveways, work trucks used on double shifts, and classic cars kept under tarps until it was time for a new chapter.
  • Mollohon: The old mill village keeps its identity separate from Newberry proper, even though they merged decades ago. Residents have given us everything from project cars sitting under carports to family SUVs borrowed by every cousin visiting from Columbia, plus RVs that never left the driveway.
  • Silverstreet: These newer subdivisions toward Prosperity house Columbia commuters who wanted land and lower taxes. Donors here have passed along fishing boats once bound for Lake Murray, classic convertibles saved for summer drives, and roomy SUVs that made the weekday commute into the city.

This is only a snapshot of our regular routes. We’ll gladly schedule a pickup anywhere you call home.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Do you only take vehicles in good condition?

Not at all. We’ve accepted many vehicles that don’t run, have high mileage, or have cosmetic or mechanical damage.

That said, acceptance can depend on the specific vehicle and condition, and some units may not qualify depending on program requirements or type. As long as there’s a valid title, we’ll review it and let you know the next steps.

2. What kind of impact does my Newberry car donation bring to the community?

Your vehicle becomes a stepping stone for neighbors in need throughout the city. Funds from your donation go directly to local Goodwill programs such as:

  • Job training that leads to real careers
  • Resume workshops and interview preparation
  • Employer introductions and placement services
  • Certification courses for a higher earning potential
  • Coaching in financial literacy and daily life skills

3. Can you pick up my car if I’m somewhere else?

Definitely. We regularly collect vehicles while donors are at work or out of town. Just tell us where the keys and title will be, and our crew can complete the removal while you’re away.

4. What if my vehicle’s registered in another state?

No problem at all. Vehicles titled outside South Carolina are eligible, provided you have clear ownership documentation.

5. How much can I deduct for my car donation?

If your vehicle sells for more than $500, you can deduct the full sale price. If it sells for $500 or less, the IRS allows a deduction up to the fair market value (usually $500). Your tax preparer can confirm the details for your situation.

6. I lost my vehicle title – how can I still donate?

Just reach out to us and we’ll guide you every step of the way. Our Title Department will assist you in requesting a duplicate from the DMV, and once that’s squared away, you’re good to go. If you need to visit in person, head to the Newberry DMV at 275 Mount Bethel Garmany Road, Newberry, SC 29108, and we’ll make sure you’re fully prepped.

Have more questions? Our FAQ page has detailed answers, or you can send us a message, and we’ll help with your specific situation.

Time to Turn Your Unwanted Vehicle into a Fresh Start for Neighbors

Sometimes, all it takes is a little help to get back on track. Your donation can give a single parent in Prosperity or a veteran near Lake Murray the tools and training they need for a fresh start. One vehicle that’s no longer in use could transform someone’s career and confidence.

From downtown Newberry to the quiet streets near Kendall Road, your generosity reaches neighbors who are ready for a second chance. So, go ahead and make a difference today – call 866-233-8586 or donate through our online form.
