Since 1921, Goodwill of Greater Detroit has helped Metro Detroiters facing employment barriers move toward work, stability, and independence. In 2023, the organization served 15,034 people through skilled trades training, re-entry support, behavioral health services, disability support, and more.

When you donate through Goodwill Car Donations, your vehicle’s value helps fund the training, support, and employment programs behind that work. Those programs meet people at different starting points, whether they need career skills, re-entry support, life-skills guidance, or a stronger connection to local employers.

That means your donation creates more pathways for Metro Detroit residents working toward stability, independence, and a stronger future.

About Goodwill of Greater Detroit

Goodwill of Greater Detroit has served Metro Detroit since 1921, when Reverend John E. Martin founded it to create work and purpose for people who were often left out of job opportunities.

Its programs are built for residents facing real barriers. Someone may need skilled trades training, another may need re-entry support after justice involvement, and someone else may benefit from behavioral health services, life-skills support, or career coaching.

By combining retail operations, donated goods, workforce programs, behavioral health services, and Goodwill’s Green Works, Goodwill of Greater Detroit turns community support into practical tools Metro Detroiters can use.

How Your Car Donation Helps

The proceeds from your donated vehicle fund Goodwill of Greater Detroit programs that give Metro Detroiters a clearer path toward work.

That support shows up in programs like:

  • Career Academy for Metro Detroiters training in high-demand skilled trades like welding, construction labor, customer service, and electric vehicle supply equipment
  • Flip The Script for justice-involved individuals who need career planning, job training, transitional work experience, and re-entry support
  • A Place Of Our Own Clubhouse for adults living with mental illness who benefit from community, structure, and work-based skill building
  • Goodwill’s Green Works for asset recovery services that create jobs, reduce waste, and back Goodwill’s mission

Your donation helps fund practical, local programs that meet Metro Detroiters at different starting points – from skilled trades training and re-entry support to behavioral health, disability services, and mission-driven work opportunities.
