Goodwill Industries of Greater New York and Northern New Jersey, Inc. (EIN: 13-1641066) is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit serving communities throughout New York City, Long Island, the Hudson Valley, and Northern New Jersey through workforce development, employment services, and support programs for individuals facing barriers to work. It focuses on helping people build skills, secure employment, and achieve greater independence.
Goodwill NYNJ traces its roots back more than a century. The first Goodwill in the New York City metropolitan area was established in Brooklyn in 1915, while Goodwill Industries of New Jersey was founded in Jersey City in 1919. Following a series of mergers over several decades, the organizations came together in 1999 to form Goodwill Industries of Greater New York and Northern New Jersey, creating a regional nonprofit that serves communities across both states.
Programs include job training, employment placement services, on-the-job coaching, retention support, career development programs, and specialized services for individuals with disabilities. Through its mission programs, retail operations, and community partnerships, Goodwill NYNJ provides access to workforce resources and employment opportunities that promote long-term economic stability, self-sufficiency, and greater independence throughout the region.
How Your Car Donation Helps
Vehicle donation proceeds support employment and workforce development programs serving communities throughout Greater New York and Northern New Jersey. According to Goodwill NYNJ’s latest Mission Impact reporting, 12,704 people received job training, placement, on-the-job coaching, and retention services, while 4,498 individuals with disabilities were supported through training, employment, and retention programs designed to help them achieve their goals. In addition, 872,913 individuals donated goods and clothing that funded Goodwill’s mission, and more than 34.9 million pounds of clothing and household goods were repurposed and reused through the organization’s stores and donation centers.
Funding sustains job training, employment placement, retention services, workforce development initiatives, and disability employment programs throughout Greater New York and Northern New Jersey.
