Looking for the Best ‘House on Wheels’?

Did you know that RVing has always been a part of American travel since the 1920s? However, it wasn’t until the 1950s when the idea of living in a “house on wheels” started to pick up speed. Since then, countless families have been making memories through some of the most idyllic spots in the United States.

Although the RV industry has had its fair share of downtime in the early 2000s, recent advancements and unprecedented global situations have brought back a steady interest in using recreational vehicles for fun family activities.

A Closer Look at the Most Popular RV Brands in America

The process of choosing the best RV brand to buy or rent may seem daunting, considering the numerous brands with competing features. If you’re looking to find the perfect house on wheels for you and your family, Goodwill Car Donations is here to help make your RV selection easier. Here are three of the most popular RV brands in the United States and their outstanding features.

  1. Grand Design RV

If you’re looking for an established brand in the Fifth Wheel RV Trailer market that’s known for its reliable build quality, Grand Design RV won’t disappoint. After conducting standard factory inspections, this company uses a 300-point inspection process performed by a separate entity.

Through the years, the company has consistently covered all the bases, including high-quality and well-designed floor plans, outstanding after-sales service, online support with knowledge bases, and forums to help RVers troubleshoot issues on the road.

Grand Design’s most popular line of trailers and fifth wheels among long-time RVers and first-time owners are Reflection and Imagine. The company also manufactures lightweight versions of its flagship lines, which can be pulled by an SUV or a pickup truck.

  1. Newmar Corporation

This brand has a sterling reputation in the industry from its build quality to its customer service. Aside from its premium and luxury Class A motorhomes, Newmar Corporation also manufactures diesel pushers and gas-powered motorhomes with price ranges that fit every budget.

Newmar’s Bay Start Sport, which is its entry-level line, is an excellent choice if you’re looking for an affordable model that comes with a beautiful interior. Its accents include a glass shower door and a kitchen backsplash. However, if ultimate luxury is what you’re after, the Newmar King Aire Model is your best bet. Its features include a bay window, tiled shower, independent front suspension, smart appliances, tiled floor with slide-outs, and polished countertops.

  1. Winnebago Industries

Founded in 1958, Winnebago is one of the oldest mega-RV manufacturers in the game. This brand has been known as a long-standing industry leader. Today, Winnebago Industries still lives up to its solid reputation for building and designing high-quality RVs that suit its customers’ needs and wants.

The company offers most of the main RV types, including Class A motorhomes, Class B motorhomes, Class C motorhomes, travel trailers, and fifth wheels. Due to its wide range of products, Winnebago makes the RV lifestyle more accessible to those who are looking to enjoy vacation-style Rving or explore full-time RVing. If you’re looking for a lightweight travel trailer that another vehicle can easily pull, consider Winnebago’s Minnie, Micro Minnie, or Hike.

How to Fix a Flat in Under 15 Minutes

Man in Black Jacket and Black Pants Sitting Near Silver Vehicle | Goodwill Car Donations Photo by Andrea Piacquadio under Pexels License

5 Quick Steps to Change Your Flat Tires Like a Pro

Suffering a flat tire while on the road is one of the frustrating things that can happen to any driver. It’s inconvenient, to say the least, as the driver will have to pull over and replace the flat tire with their spare tire.

For drivers who don’t know or have never tried to do this, the experience is doubly disconcerting. If you’re one such driver, you need to learn how to properly and efficiently replace a flat tire.

Luckily, fixing a flat tire isn’t hard to do. As long as you know the steps to do it and have all the tools you need, you can be back on the road in a matter of minutes.

Never deal with embarrassing flats and getting stranded again. Goodwill Car Donations shares these 5 quick steps for replacing your flat tire in under 15 minutes:

Step 1:

Upon experiencing the signs of a flat tire, find a location where you can change your tire safely. Turn on your hazard lights and gradually reduce your speed when pulling over. Don’t make any abrupt turns. Park in a well-lit location.

Step 2:

Turn your engine off, pull up your parking brake, and take out the things you’ll need. They include your spare tire, jack, wrench, and wheel wedges if you have them. You need wheel wedges to further ensure that your vehicle won’t roll while you fix the flat tire. If you’re changing a rear tire, place these wedges in front of the front tires. If your flat tire is at the front, put the wheel wedges behind the rear tires.

Step 3:

If the wheel has a cover, remove it to expose the lug nuts. Then, use your wrench to loosen the nuts a bit. It is important to remember to loosen the lug nuts before you jack up the vehicle. This way the weight of the vehicle is still on the wheels, preventing them from spinning dangerously while you turn the lugs.

Step 4:

Before jacking up your car, make sure your car is sitting on level ground. Check your service manual to find the appropriate jacking points in your car. Place the jack underneath the vehicle and raise your car until it’s about 6 inches off the ground. Once it’s raised, you can now proceed to unscrew the loosened lug nuts and remove the wheel.

Step 5:

Mount your spare tire on the hub and screw the lug nuts tightly by hand. Once you lower your vehicle back to the ground, use your wrench to tighten them even more. Your wheel should now be secure and you can now safely drive your vehicle again!

Put Your Burdensome Car to Good Use This Way

In case your car is having problems that are a lot more worrisome than a flat tire and having them repaired will deplete your budget and your savings, perhaps it would be wiser if you simply let go of that old sedan and replace it with a new one.

You can still make good use of your unwanted car when you donate it to us at Goodwill Car Donations. We will convert it into a tool for uplifting the lives of the disadvantaged people in your community.

Our team will fix and polish your vehicle before auctioning it off, with the proceeds going to the Goodwill organizations serving your area. These IRS-certified 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations are dedicated to helping disadvantaged men and women throughout the country — those who are burdened with disabilities, lack of education, job experience, or essential skills, and other limiting personal circumstances, such as being a former inmate and welfare-dependent.

Your local Goodwill organizations use the funding we give to provide their beneficiaries with job training, employment opportunities, scholarships, livelihood assistance, disability benefits, and other vital support services.

Donating a vehicle to us is super easy and convenient. You’ll breeze through our donation process in no time at all!

Your vehicle donation will also allow you to receive valuable rewards, including your entitlement to claim the maximum tax deduction in the next tax season. We will also provide you with our free professional pickup and towing service anywhere in the United States.

Moreover, your donation will bring you immense satisfaction, knowing that you’ll be contributing to the growth and development of your community by empowering your needy fellow residents through work and learning.

We accept almost all vehicle types regardless of their age, mileage, or condition. We take even damaged vehicles or those that are no longer running.

How to Check the Oil Level in Your Car?

Person Checking the Oil of an Engine | Goodwill Car Donations Photo by Gustavo Fring under Pexels License

4 Easy Steps to Check Your Car’s Oil Level

Checking the oil level in your car is one of the quickest and easiest things you can do when it comes to vehicle maintenance. Knowing how to do this properly is important because if your oil level is too low, your vehicle won’t function smoothly. Worse, if your oil has run dry without you knowing about it, you risk substantial damage to your car’s engine.

Goodwill Car Donations shares these simple steps on how to check your vehicle’s oil level all by yourself.

  1. Pop the hood and locate the dipstick.

Open your vehicle’s hood and find the dipstick. The handle usually stands out so you’ll be able to spot it easily. Generally, it’s located near the engine or toward it and has a brightly colored handle. Depending on your vehicle type or model, this can look like a circle, a hook, or even T-shaped.

  1. Remove the dipstick.

Be sure the engine is cold (or has been off for at least 10 minutes) before you check the oil. Remove the dipstick by twisting or turning the handle. Wipe it with a paper towel or lint-free rag to make it oil-free, then dip it back in as far as it can go. Pull it back out slowly once you’re done dipping.

  1. Inspect the dipstick.

Look at the film of oil on the end of the stick. Note how high the oil film reaches on the dipstick and the condition of the oil, and add or change the oil as needed. Your dipstick should have markings on it that indicate where your oil level is. Some cars have MIN or MAX words on them while others have indicator dots. Where the oil stops after you dipped it back in is the current level of your oil.

  1. Decide on what you should do.

If your oil is at a minimum level or near the lower end of the dipstick, this means your oil is low and you need to add more oil to your engine.  You don’t add oil into the tiny tube that the dipstick sits in. Look for a screw-off cap on top of the largest part of the engine. It could be blank or it could be labeled “oil cap” or something similar. Unscrew that cap and add oil as needed.

If the oil is at the max level or a bit higher, then your oil is at the optimal level and you’re good to go. However, if your oil is above the max level or line, you need to drain some of the oil in your engine. Having more oil than what your engine needs could cause problems, including engine damage.

Do You Have a Car That’s Fit for Retirement?

Knowing how to check the oil level in your car and when to add or change oil is just one of the many things you need to do to keep your car in good condition. However, some things are beyond your control, such as the wear and tear of your auto due to constant and prolonged usage.

If your car has developed issues whose repair would burn a big hole in your pocket, perhaps it would make more sense to just dispose of it and buy a new one.

Your old car won’t go to waste though when you hand it over to us at Goodwill Car Donations. We’ll give it a new and worthy purpose by converting it into a powerful tool for improving the lives of the disadvantaged people in your community.

Our team will have your auto fixed before selling it through an auction. The proceeds will go directly to the Goodwill organizations serving your area. Just like us, these IRS-approved 501(c)(3) nonprofits are committed to helping disadvantaged Americans — those men and women who are saddled with disabilities, lack of education, job experience, or essential skills, and other limiting personal issues, such as having police records or a welfare mentality.

Your local Goodwill organizations will use the funding we give to provide their beneficiaries with job training, employment opportunities, scholarships, livelihood assistance, disability benefits, and other essential support services.

You won’t be going home empty-handed after making your donation. Your charitable contribution will entitle you to receive the highest possible tax deduction in the next tax season. You’ll also get a free professional pickup and towing service from us. We will provide you with this service wherever you’re located in the United States.

However, the best thing about donating to Goodwill is the priceless joy and satisfaction you’ll feel when you see the less fortunate people in your community achieve a better quality of life, thanks to your donation.

Feel free to donate almost any type of vehicle regardless of its age or condition. You can donate a damaged car or a truck that’s no longer running.

How Does a Car Air Conditioning System Work?

How Does a Car Air Conditioning System Work | Goodwill Car Donations Photo by Athena under Pexels License

Take a Closer Look at Your Car Air Conditioning System

If you’re like most car owners, you probably don’t care how your AC system works as long as it gives you a refreshing blast of cold air as soon as you press the button. However, if you’re curious about what goes on behind the scenes, Goodwill Car Donations is here to unravel the mystery.

AC systems are designed to cycle refrigerant, convert it from gas to liquid, and then back again. When the refrigerant is in a cold gaseous state inside the system’s evaporator, outside air is blown over it to cool it before it’s sent to your vehicle’s cabin. It’s easier to understand how the system works if you can visualize the major components that make up an AC system:

  1. Compressor

The compressor serves as the power unit of your car’s AC system. Manufacturers mount the compressor to the front side of your engine and drive it with a serpentine belt. As it separates the low-pressure side from the high-pressure side, the compressor takes in low-pressure gas and compresses it into high-pressure and high-temperature gas.

  1. Condenser

The condenser looks like a small radiator, usually mounted at the front of the car, right next to the radiator. When the compressor is pressurizing the refrigerant, the condenser works to reduce the temperature and pressure of hot gasses coming from the refrigerant. In addition, the condenser is also responsible for moving the cooled liquid refrigerant to the receiver/dryer.

  1. Evaporator

The evaporator is another form of radiator that does the exact opposite of what the condenser does. It’s usually mounted behind the dashboard and inside the passenger compartment. It changes the refrigerant back to its gaseous state to produce a cooling effect. As outside air from the cabin blows across the evaporator, the air is cooled and dried.

Has Your Car Become a Money-Drain?

If your mechanic finds that major parts of your car, including your AC system, need to be replaced due to damage, if the costs of the spare parts plus labor would drain your savings, perhaps it would make more sense for you financially to just buy a new vehicle.

Don’t worry, you can still make good use of your unwanted auto when you hand it over to us at Goodwill Car Donations. We will turn your auto into a tool for transforming the lives of the disadvantaged people in your community.

Our team will have your vehicle fixed before auctioning it off to generate funds for the Goodwill organizations serving your area. These IRS-certified 501(c)(3) nonprofits cater to disadvantaged Americans — those who are burdened with disabilities, lack of education, job experience, or essential skills, and other limiting personal issues, such as being a former inmate or having a welfare mentality.

Your local Goodwill nonprofits use the funding we give them to provide their beneficiaries with job training, employment opportunities, scholarships, livelihood assistance, disability benefits, and other essential support services.

As a Goodwill donor, you’ll be entitled to a fast and free towing service anywhere in the country. You’ll also have the privilege of claiming the highest possible tax deduction in the next tax season.

Best of all, you’ll find great satisfaction in doing something that will benefit your entire community when formerly idle members get the chance to harness their full potential, eventually enabling them to attain financial security.

At Goodwill, we accept almost all vehicle types. You can even donate vehicles that are damaged or no longer working.

How Do I Prepare My Car For Summer?

Tips for Preparing Your Car for the Scorching Months Ahead

While you may look forward to dry and warm days ahead, the scorching heat of the summer sun can affect your car in several discomforting ways. As such, you need to get your vehicle ready for the hot weather and summer travel ahead.

You know that it’s the perfect time for that vacation you’ve long been waiting for when the kids are out of school, the sun is out, the temps are rising, and the pools are open. However, before you set out for a cross-country trip, it’s best to get your vehicle summer-ready a few weeks in advance. To get you started, Goodwill Car Donations has compiled these tips that you should look into to ensure your safety on the road.

  1. Inspect the brakes.

To check your brakes, you need to take your car for a spin before hitting the brakes. If you hear a grinding sound or sense a vibration, you need to take your vehicle to a reliable mechanic for an inspection. During the process, the specialist will keep an eye out for issues with your brakes, fluid leaks, or problems with your rotors, brake pads, drums, and shoes.

  1. Check the tires.

One of the biggest mistakes people make before going on a summer road trip is forgetting to check all four of their tires. Regardless of the type or brand of your tires, you should check them for signs of under-inflation, which can lead to premature wear, or over-inflation, which can trigger a blowout. You’ll also need to keep an eye out for bulges, cuts, or any object that’s penetrating the tire before you inspect the tread.

When you’re trying to inspect the tire treads, try placing a quarter upside down in the tire treads’ grooves. If the top of Washington’s head becomes visible, that tire is already worn-out and needs replacing. Be sure to replace your winter tires with summer or all-season tires.

  1. Refill the fluids.

Be sure to refill your coolant, engine oil, transmission fluid, brake fluid, and power steering fluid. Check the owner’s manual for the specific amount. You may need a professional mechanic if you’re driving a new car model that comes with a sealed transmission or a power steering system that doesn’t require fluid.

  1. Juice up the battery.

The last thing you’d want is to get stranded in the middle of nowhere due to a dead battery. Before hitting the road, it’s best to pop the hood and check out your car battery’s cable connections. Make sure that these areas are clean and secure. While you’re at it, make sure that the battery is properly attached. You may have to purchase a new battery if the charge is low.

Looking for the Best Way to Retire Your Old Car?

If you have an old car that’s no longer comfortable and safe to drive in summer or any other weather, you can give it a worthy retirement by donating it to us at Goodwill Car Donations. Your donation will become a vital source of support for the disadvantaged men and women in your community.

We’ll have your car fixed before putting it on the auction block. Once it gets sold, the proceeds will go to the Goodwill organizations serving your area. These IRS-certified 501(c)(3) nonprofits cater to men and women who are burdened with disabilities, lack of education, essential skills, or job experience, and other limiting personal issues, such as being a former inmate or having a welfare mentality. These disadvantages prevent them from finding decent sources of income that can enable them to escape from the grip of poverty.

Your local Goodwill organizations use the funding we give them to provide their beneficiaries with job and skills training, vocational services, scholarships, financial aid, disability benefits, family support, and other essential support services.

Expect to receive the 100% tax-deductible sales receipt of your car by mail soon after your vehicle’s auction. You’ll need it to claim your top tax deduction in the next tax season.

Moreover, we’ll provide you with our free towing service at a date and place most convenient to you anywhere in the country.

Your gift will also allow you to savor the satisfaction of serving your community by helping empower your less fortunate neighbors.

We accept nearly all vehicle types, even those that are no longer working.

Best Boat Types For Families

Here’s How to Find the Perfect Boat for Your Water-Loving Family

For water-loving folks, boats are like portals into another world where the stresses of life can’t possibly reach them. The experience gets even better when shared with people who matter to you the most. After all, there’s nothing like spending quality time with your family at sea on a boat hundreds of miles away from typical distractions inland.

Boating brings parents and kids closer together as they become a “crew” through shared responsibilities and teamwork. If you’re planning to start boating as a family tradition, you’d want to find the perfect vessel that you and your family can enjoy to the fullest.

Top Choices for Family-Friendly Boats

The ideal boat type for you and your family will depend on your boating style, the size of the boat best suited for you and your loved ones, and the accessories it should have. To help you narrow down your choices, Goodwill Car Donations has compiled a list of the best family-friendly boats one of which you can use for your next summer adventure.

  1. Pontoon Boat

If you’re looking for a lifestyle boat that’s perfect for fishing and luxury cruising, you can’t go wrong with a pontoon boat. Thanks to its spacious deck and stable platform, you and your kids can simply kick back and lounge on the water. Some pontoon boats are equipped with powerful engines that allow you to enjoy watersports as well as attachable water slides.

However, this type of boat may not be as capable in choppy waters as large monohull boats. If this is a concern for you, it’s best to opt for a tri-toon, which comes with three pontoons instead of just two. You’ll be surprised at how apt a tri-toon is at handling large waves.

  1. Cabin Cruiser

Since a cabin cruiser is larger than other boat types, it comes with a higher price tag. However, it features amenities such as a power generator, water heater, shore power system, as well as heating and air conditioning. Besides allowing you to visit distant ports, a cabin cruiser expands your abilities to take a family vacation on the water. Cabin cruisers are essentially mobile homes that float. Most of them are outfitted with almost all the things you need to experience fantastic family adventures that can last for days.

  1. Bowrider

If your family’s idea of a good time involves towing water toys, joyrides across the bay or lake, swimming at the beach, or just kicking back on the water, you’d want a bowrider. Since this boat offers versatility, plenty of seating, and easy access to the water, it gets the nod for just about any waterborne activity you can think of.

Looking to Dispose of an Old Vehicle?

Your local Goodwill organizations will use the funding we give them to provide their beneficiaries with financial aid, disability benefits, skills and job training, scholarships, employment opportunities, livelihood assistance, and other vital support services.

3 Most Common Cars in America

Know More About America’s Most Favorite Car Models

If you think that America’s best-selling cars are the latest vehicles on the market, think again. When it comes to favorite car models, drivers across multiple states have a diverse set of preferences. However, some tried and tested options have managed to establish themselves as perennial crowd-pleasers. Since these car models have stood the test of time, they’ve earned a reputation for reliability.

Common Car Models Americans Drive

We’re living in a country where the roads have the greatest number of cars anywhere in the world. If you’re curious to know about the three most popular car models in the United States, check this out:

  1. Honda Accord

Although it originated in Japan, the Honda Accord is as American as apple pie as far as U.S. consumers are concerned. Although the Accord started its reign in 1976 as a leader in the mid-size sedan market, it wasn’t until 1982 that the first Accord was manufactured at Honda’s plant in Marysville, Ohio.

Consumer Reports expects the 2022 Accord to be more reliable than the average new sedan. Besides being known for its reliability, fuel efficiency, and flexibility when it comes to engine and transmission combinations, the Accord is also sized right for solo drivers, a family of four, or a friend group of five.

Moreover, purchasing a brand-new Honda Accord won’t break the bank because its price starts at $26,120. As such, this car has been one of the perpetual best-sellers in the United States — and it doesn’t look like its sales are going to slow down anytime soon.

  1. Nissan Altima

Nissan is one of the most trusted automakers in the world, and the Altima is its flagship sedan. This car’s sleek looks, spacious cabin, revolutionary engine, fuel efficiency, dynamic drive technologies, built-in safety features, and smart convenience features make it one of the best-selling sedans in the United States.

If you’re looking for a motor vehicle that has excellent gas mileage and a comfortable ride, you couldn’t go wrong with a Nissan Altima. U.S. News lists the base price of its 2022 model at $24,550.

  1. Toyota Camry

Although pickups and SUVs are edging sedans out of the marketplace, the Toyota Camry remains one of the best-selling sedans in the country. Known for its true mass appeal, there’s bound to be someone who loves driving their Camry no matter which state you go to.

In the highly competitive mid-size sedan market, the Toyota Camry stands out from the crowd because of its ability to stand the test of time. Besides being a drama-free vehicle that rarely breaks down, this car is also a bona fide legend when it comes to affordability with prices starting at $25,295.

Do You Have a Vehicle You Want to Dispose of?

Are you looking to dispose of your old and unwanted vehicle to make room perhaps for a brand-new Honda Accord, Nissan Altima, or Toyota Camry? Instead of selling your old faithful or driving it to the nearest car graveyard, consider donating it to us at Goodwill Car Donations.

We’ll have it auctioned off with the proceeds handed over to the Goodwill organizations serving your area. These IRS-certified 501(c)(3) nonprofits are dedicated to helping Americans who are saddled with disabilities, lack of education, job experience, or essential skills, and other disadvantages, such as having prison records or a welfare mentality.

Your local Goodwill organizations use the funding we give them to provide their beneficiaries with livelihood assistance, disability benefits, job training, scholarships, financial aid, employment opportunities,

job and skills training, vocational services, mentoring and internship assistance, family support, and other types of support services.

While helping your disadvantaged neighbors attain financial independence, you’ll also rid yourself of an unwanted vehicle with no hassle and at no cost to you since we will provide you with our free professional pickup and towing service anywhere in the country.

What’s more, your donation will make you eligible to enjoy a top tax deduction in the next tax season.

Your act of charity will likewise bring you an immense sense of satisfaction, knowing that you’ll be contributing to the growth and development of your community by generating jobs and livelihood opportunities for the benefit of all residents.

Fatal Accidents Are More Likely to Happen at Night

Night driving carries a lot of risks. Drivers are oftentimes drowsy, fatigued, and have lower visibility. Some may even be alcohol-impaired.

At night, your chances of figuring in a fatal accident increase by as much as three times, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Whether you’re going for a quick drive to the store or on your way to work, you must know how to keep yourself safe when driving at night. Putting safety first during these nighttime trips will keep you and others out of harm’s way.

To help reduce your chances of getting into an accident, Goodwill Car Donations presents seven safety tips for night driving:

  1. Make sure all your lights are working correctly.

Do a quick check to see that your signal lights and all other lights are working just fine,

  1. Know how to use your headlights.

Know the appropriate occasion when to switch to high beams. Use high beams only whenever you’re unable to see enough of the road ahead to drive safely. Never use your high-beam headlights while you are driving in fog, rain, or snow. In such conditions, high beams will shine directly into the precipitation, which will reflect the bright light to you, causing glare and making it even more difficult for you to see the road.

  1. Limit your speed.

Go slower than usual at night. Driving slowly gives you more time to react to whatever happens in front of you.

  1. Be careful in dimly lit areas.

Be extra careful in areas that don’t have much lighting. Keep an eye out for pedestrians, bicycles, wildlife, and other obstacles.

  1. Take extra care on two-lane highways.

Two-lane highways usually have lower overall light and are a nightmare for nighttime glare. Opt to take a safer route if possible.

  1. Never drive when impaired.

Never drink and drive. Alcohol can cause you to feel drowsy, affecting your reaction time and decision-making. Do not get behind the wheel until the alcohol is fully flushed out of your system.

  1. Never drive when you’re fatigued.

Some road accidents are due to fatigued drivers. Their condition causes them to fall asleep while driving or drive recklessly so they can get home fast. If you think you’re too tired to drive, take a nap or have someone else drive for you.

Night driving can be much more dangerous if you’re using an old car that’s no longer in good condition. Driving such a vehicle can put you in peril even during the daytime.

If having that automobile repaired will burn a huge hole in your wallet with no assurance that it won’t suffer any more breakdown, your best option is to retire it in the most rewarding way possible. That will happen when you simply turn over that vehicle to us at Goodwill Car Donations. We’ll use your donation to uplift the lives of the disadvantaged residents of your community while allowing you to personally benefit from your charitable contribution.

We’ll put your unwanted auto up for auction and turn over the proceeds to the Goodwill organizations serving your area. Just like us, these IRS-approved 501(c)(3) nonprofits are dedicated to helping individuals who are burdened with disabilities, lack of education, job experience, or essential skills, and other limiting personal issues, such as having prison or police records. Their disadvantages prevent these folks from finding decent jobs and other sources of income that can free them from a life of poverty.

Your local Goodwill organizations use the funding we give them to provide their beneficiaries with job and skills training, vocational services, scholarships, financial aid, disability benefits, family support, and other essential support services.

To thank you for your charitable contribution, we’ll promptly mail to you the 100% tax-deductible sales receipt of your car after its auction. This will entitle you to claim the maximum tax deduction in the next tax season.

We’ll also provide you with a free professional towing service anywhere in the country.

Moreover, nothing compares to the joy and satisfaction you’d feel, knowing that your donation will greatly benefit your community in terms of the jobs that it will help create for the empowerment of your underprivileged fellow residents. Dos and Don’ts of Cleaning Your Car’s Engine Bay

It Surely Is Worth Your Time and Effort

When it comes to car cleanliness, the fit and finish of the exterior of your car will always get all of the attention. For this reason, it wouldn’t be surprising if you spend more of your time cleaning, polishing, and waxing its body. After all, there’s nothing more satisfying than driving a shiny car that gleams in the sun.

However, have you ever checked if what’s under your car’s hood is as clean as its exterior? Achieving and maintaining a clean engine bay can be a tough challenge. However, the entire process of cleaning it is surely worth your time and effort. Besides being attractive, a clean engine compartment can also increase your car’s resale value.

What Are the Dos and Don’ts of Cleaning your Car’s Engine Bay?

You don’t have to turn to a professional to bring your dirty engine bay back to its respectable condition — you can do it yourself! To help you get the best out of the process, Goodwill Car Donations has pulled together the dos and don’ts of cleaning your car’s engine bay.

  1. DON’T be too quick to take everything apart and DO take a “before” photo.

You can’t expect to get a deep clean unless you dive deep into your engine bay’s corners and edges. For this reason, you’ll need to remove its compartments. However, before you do, be sure to snap a “before” photo to make it easier for you to figure out how to put everything back together.

  1. DON’T use too much engine cleaner and DO use the right chemicals.

Unless your engine is heavily soiled, you must resist the urge to fog your entire engine compartment with an aerosol can of foaming degreaser. If you fail to rinse the residue, you’ll soon find yourself dealing with rust.

It’s best to grab a clean rag, spray the engine cleaner on it, and use it to wipe away the dirt and oil. This may take some time, but it allows you to become more familiar with the nooks and crannies while preventing the chemicals from getting into areas they shouldn’t be in. You may use more aggressive chemicals such as brake or carburetor cleaner to get rid of stubborn grime.

  1. DON’T use a pressure washer and DO use a garden hose.

Whatever happens, don’t even think about using a pressure washer to wash off the buildup of dirt and grim on your engine compartment. Doing so will only cause the jet to push past the gaskets and into electrical connections and panels, as well as into grease fittings.

Before you try to clean a filthy engine compartment with a good rinse-down, be sure to seal all crankcase openings and electrical connections. Use a garden hose and a soft-bristled brush to get the job done.

4 Inexpensive DIY Solutions for Fixing Minor Car Dents

Here’s How to Get Rid of Those Minor Dents on Your Vehicle

Nothing is more annoying for a meticulous car owner than seeing dents on their vehicle. Unfortunately, dents can’t always be avoided no matter how careful you are as a driver. Whenever you’re out on the road, you’re always at risk of getting your car damaged by road objects, falling debris, or clumsy drivers.

However, some dents are not worth losing any sleep over. You need not always take your car to the shop where you would normally be charged on a per-panel basis regardless of how serious the dent is.

You can fix some car dents all on your own using a few basic items. Goodwill Car Donations offers these four inexpensive do-it-yourself solutions for fixing minor car dents:

  1. The hairdryer solution

You’ll need a hairdryer, dry ice, aluminum foil, and a can of compressed air. Start by heating the affected area using a hairdryer. Afterward, cover it with aluminum foil and start rubbing dry ice over it (make sure you wear gloves!). After at least five minutes of rubbing, cool the dented area using the can of compressed air. The dent should pop out due to the rapid temperature change.

  1. Use a plunger

Using a plunger is ideal for dents that aren’t too big or crumpled. Pour some water over the dent and the plunger and start plunging away!

  1. The boiling water trick

This works best for plastic bumpers but can also work on other car sections that are made of mostly plastic and can easily be accessed. Simply pour a pot of boiling water over the dented area, reach behind it, and pop the dent out.

  1. Use a hammer or a mallet

Some dents can be popped back into place but are too hard to do so by hand. In this case, using a hammer or a mallet is your best bet. Make sure to protect the side that you are hammering on with a piece of thick clothing like a towel. Hammer the dent in a slow and controlled manner until it’s fixed.

Some Residents In Your Area Are Dealing With Much Bigger Problems

While the dents on your car can be unpleasant to look at, you’re still lucky if that’s all you’re worried about. Some residents in your local community have much bigger problems. They are those who can’t find decent sources of income to free themselves from poverty because of their disabilities, lack of education, job experience, or essential skills, and other limiting personal issues, such as being welfare-dependent and a former inmate.

You can help uplift the lives of these folks by simply donating your unwanted car to Goodwill Car Donations.

We’ll auction off your donated vehicle to generate funds for the Goodwill organizations serving your local area. These IRS-approved 501(c)(3) nonprofits cater to disadvantaged U.S. citizens, providing them with job and skills training, vocational services, scholarships, financial aid, disability benefits, family support, and other essential support services.

You’ll not be the only one doing the giving when you donate to us. To thank you for your kindness and generosity, we’ll make sure you’ll receive substantial rewards. They include getting our free professional towing service anywhere in the country and also the highest possible tax deduction you can claim in the next tax season.

Moreover, nothing compares to the joy and satisfaction you’d feel, knowing that your charitable contribution will greatly benefit your community in terms of the jobs and livelihood opportunities that it will help create for the empowerment of your underprivileged fellow residents.

Nearly all vehicle types are accepted in our donation program. They include vehicles that are no longer in good condition.
