Note:  These first two steps are for your protection! There are many clever car donation scammers out there - with professional-sounding sales pitches to get you to donate your vehicle.  But they will get the value for the vehicle - not the charity.  Not to mention you won't be able to claim a tax deduction...

1.  Make sure your chosen Arkansas car donation charity is genuine.  Make darn sure the charity has registered with the Arkansas Attorney General's Office. (link is below)

2. Ensure the Arkansas charity is registered with the IRS, so you are able to get a tax deduction.  It should be listed on IRS Publication 78 (Link below)

3. Have the vehicle title in your possession.  Replacement titles can be gotten at the Arkansas Department of Motor Vehicles (link below). When you find an eligible charity, you will fill out a short form at an Arkansas DMV that says the vehicle is being donated to a charity.  This way you are not liable for anything that happens with it anymore.  (The charity may offer to take care of this for you, but we recommend you do it yourself - for your own protection.)

4. Arrange for pickup of your vehicle from the charity.  You shouldn't have to pay for any towing in Arkansas yourself - the charity should tow your donated vehicle at no charge.  Take off the license plates - but check with the Arkansas DMV first; some states require you leave the plates on.

5. Save your receipts for when you file your taxes.  (You must itemize to get the deduction.)
