1.  Is the Delaware car donation charity legal?  If it is, it will likely be registered with  one of the organizations listed below.  (Note that there are many bogus car donation charities in every state.  They will take your vehicle donation and keep any proceeds from its sale.  No tax deduction will be available, and no family in need will get any benefit.)

2. Ensure the Delaware charity is registered with the IRS.  It must be for you to receive a tax deduction.  It should be listed on IRS Publication 78 (Link is below).

3. Have the vehicle title in your possession.  Replacement titles can be gotten at the Delaware Department of Motor Vehicles (link below).  You will sign over the vehicle's title to the charity at the DMV.  Some charities will offer to do this for you, but if you do it yourself you will know for sure you are released from any future liabilities connected with the vehicle.

4. Arrange for the charity to have the vehicle towed for you.  The towing in Delaware should be paid for by the charity - so don't pay for it yourself.  Be sure to take off the license plates before the vehicle is picked up.  

5. Save your receipts for when you file your taxes.  You must itemize your taxes to get a tax deduction.
