Arizona car donation programs are a great way to clear up space on your property. But at the same time, you'll be doing a good deed and getting a tax deduction!



The best way to go about your Arizona car donation is to follow this step-by-step guideline:

1.  Make sure your chosen Arizona car donation charity is genuine.  Charity car donation scams are commonplace, so ensure the charity has registered with the Arizona Attorney General's Office. (link is below)

2. Ensure the Arizona charity is registered with the IRS, so you are able to get a tax deduction.  It should be listed on IRS Publication 78 (Link below)

3. Have the vehicle title in your possession.  Replacement titles can be gotten at the Arizona Department of Motor Vehicles (link below). When you find an eligible charity, you will fill out a short form at an Arizona DMV that says the vehicle is being donated to a charity.  This way you are not responsible for it anymore.  The charity may offer to do this for you, but you may want to do it yourself - for your own protection.

4. Arrange for pickup of your vehicle from the charity.  You shouldn't have to pay for any towing in Arizona yourself - the charity should tow your donated vehicle for free.  Remove the license plates - but check with the Arizona DMV first; a couple states require you leave the plates on.

5. Save your receipts for when you file your taxes.  (You must itemize to get the deduction.)
